Some of our Learning Areas

Every child learns differently. Accordingly, we embrace different teaching methods at Little Acorn, giving children the freedom to refine and utilise different methods. This combined with small class sizes, allows us to tailor our teaching approach to each individual child.  By combining authentic Montessori principals and the Early Years Foundation Stage we thrive to equip children with opportunities to find their passion and curiosity.

Early Years Foundation Stage

The EYFS is a UK based system and describes the time in your Childs life between birth - 5. This is a very important stage as it prepares your children for big school and future learning and successes.

Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

Prime areas of Learning

  • communication and language

  • physical development

  • personal, social and emotional development

As children grow the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas:

  • literacy

  • mathematics

  • understanding the world

  • expressive arts and design

These 7 areas are used to plan your Childs learning and activities and is designed to be flexible in order to follow your Childs unique needs and interests.

Montessori

In a Montessori classroom, children are immersed in an environment that fosters independence and surrounded by people who actively demonstrate a variety of ways to care for people, belongings, and the world around them. From a young age, they learn to express their feelings and show kindness to others. They are coached on how to resolve conflicts and how to support their classmates. They are given communication tools that serve them long after they leave the Montessori classroom. The children learn self-discipline and thrive in an environment that satisfies their need for order.  Children learn through the hands-on use of the Montessori materials which are specifically designed to meet a purpose and by following the call of their own curiosity.
